Target Species
- Gamefish. Couta, dorado, yellowfin tuna, Natal snoek and garrick, with occasional sailfish, marlin and wahoo.
- Bottom fish. Daga salmon, geelbek, musselcracker, rockcod, reds and kob on the deeper reefs.
- Seasons. One Ballito operator fishes for marlin, sailfish, dorado, couta and tuna from December to May, and kob, geelbek and garrick from June to November. Bottom fish run all year.
The Salmon Bay Launch
Salmon Bay is a launch site, not a swimming beach. The beach is steep with a big shore break at high tide and rocks on either side, so launches can be wet and depend on the surf.
Included and What to Bring
- Usually included: rods, reels, tackle, live bait and lures.
- Every angler needs their own recreational fishing permit, sold at Post Offices and online by the DFFE. Some operators include it, most do not.
- Not always included: fish cleaning and transport.
